Artistic Director, Lucas Segovia
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lucas Segovia began his dance training at the age of 16. Just three years later, he joined Ballet Argentino as a Soloist under the direction of Julio Bocca. Quickly rising through the ranks, he was promoted to Principal Dancer and had the distinct honor of performing a solo in Bocca’s farewell performance for an audience of over 300,000.
Lucas has been a member of companies such as The Washington Ballet, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company (under Christopher Wheeldon), and The Joffrey Ballet, where he performed in virtually the entire repertoire of the company as a Soloist or Principal Dancer. His repertoire spans a wide range of iconic works by renowned choreographers, including George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Alexei Ratmansky, William Forsythe, Val Caniparoli, Yuri Possokhov, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.
Mr Segovia has appeared in several musical theatre productions, including Drury Lane’s West Side Story, where he played Bernardo, as well as the Broadway productions of An American in Paris and Brigadoon. Throughout his career, Lucas has performed in over 400 cities worldwide, appearing on some of the most prestigious stages around the globe. His achievements have been recognized with the Premio Clarín, one of Argentina’s highest award in the arts.
As an educator and coach, Lucas has taught master classes across the U.S. and internationally, including in Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and Amsterdam. He has been a guest teacher at Northwestern University and Point Park University, as well as Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Company and Chicago Repertory Ballet, among others. He serves as a permanent substitute faculty member at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts in Chicago and is a Permanent Guest Teacher at Boca Ballet Theatre in Florida. His students have successfully auditioned for elite dance programs and top-tier universities.
As a director and leader, Lucas served as Chief Ballet Master at Yorkville Performing Arts Center and he has directed and choreographed original productions of renowned ballets and musicals with casts of over 130 dancers, singers, and actors.
