Capital Campaign

Rockford Dance Company is the premier provider of the art of dance in the greater Rockford area. Though our world class instructors bring the power of dance to over 400 students each year, we are still unable to meet the community's demand.

The RDC is now in a position to increase our dance studio space, allowing us to serve more dancers each year. In this unique opportunity, the Rockford Dance Company will move into the current office space occupied by the Rockford Art Museum, while the art museum moves its offices to the main floor gallery level.

It's a win-win opportunity we have labeled Trading Spaces.

There are more benefits to Trading Spaces, like a consolidated office space and a better front-office operation. In short, the move will allow us to serve you, our community, better.

But Rockford Dance Company needs your help to transform the office space into a dance studio. Our goal is to raise $150,000 for improvements to the dance floor, an upgrade to the music system, and other construction.

At this time, we our proud to announce that we have raised $119,746. The Board of Directors have given their go ahead for the project to start in May. The remaining $30,000 is just as important as the previous raised funds. Please continue to review the constructions plans and detail descriptions that follow.

Construction Details

The Riverfront Museum Park was completed in 1990 with funds raised by the tenant organizations, Rockford Art Museum (RAM), Discovery Center, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, WNIU, Storefront Cinema, and the Rockford Dance Company. At that time is was strong perception that a presence on the first floor was essential to our success in this building. Therefore, two medium size studios were built on the 1st floor and 3 studios of various sizes were built on the second floor.

Last year, RAM approached RDC with the idea of trading their second floor office space for the two studios on the main floor. This would reduce their oversized office space and move it next to their gallery. We would benefit from larger studios and administrative office.

Below is a diagram depicting our plans for the project for you to use as reference.

Office Space:

We will be moving into a portion of the current RAM office space. We plan no remodeling of the actual individual offices but will be adding a counter to easily handle class registrations. Computer networking lines will be installed. This space will provide offices for the School Director and Office Manager.

Studio 1:

This is a new studio taking up the remaining part of the RAM office space. It is significantly larger than the downstairs' studio it will be replacing. The studio will allow us to have more flexibility in our scheduling and will be better suited for larger classes. This studio will also be equipped with "sprung flooring, that not only helps a dancer with his/her jumps but also prevents injury. The studio will have a viewing window added to the current viewing room for Studio 2. Patrons will be able to watch activity in both studios at the same time. This studio will also be equipped with a new sound system and TV/video system.

Studio 2:

This studio is our main studio used for company classes and rehearsal space. No new construction is planned, but the studio will be equipped with portable bars, new sound and TV/Video system.

Studio 3:

Studio 3 remains the same size. It will have a viewing glass window added to allow parents to watch the classroom activity. This room will be equipped with a new sound system.

Studio 4:

This studio will replace our current office space. This studio will be a just a bit larger than the current studio it will be replacing. It will fitted with a sprung floor and a new sound system. This studio will also include a viewing window.

Studio 5:

Studio 5 will be enlarged and a viewing window and viewing room will be added. This studio will also be fitted with a new sound system.

All of the viewing windows will be fitted with a one way mirror glass allowing parents to watch the children and not be a distraction to the classroom participants. Since the move into this facility we have not upgraded any of our systems or done any major improvements or repairs. RDC feels it time to reinvest into this facility and hope you will assist in that endeavor.
