Because Rockford Dance Company believes in giving our students quality dance education, we continue to offer dance instruction over the summer through an exciting program of intensive workshops.
During the second week in June, the Dance Company brings together a renowned group of guest teachers from the Northern Illinois area to instruct students in our week long summer-intensive. Throughout this full-day experience, students receive advanced instruction in a wide range of dance forms, from Ballet to Character, and Hip Hop to Modern. With two different levels of training there is a place for all students. As the students work with the instructors, they are enriched in the traditions of the dance world from many different genres. At the end of the week, the program culminates in an informal presentation of the students' work.
Also, during the second week of August, Rockford Dance Company holds a Ballet workshop, guest-taught by Northern Illinois University's Randall Newsom. This week long intensive offers a rigorous program of Ballet instruction to students in two technique levels. Level One focuses on achieving a strong technical foundation, followed by instruction in the elements of the traditional Character form. Level Two explores an advanced level of Ballet technique. At this level, students are also instructed in Pointe technique and several classic Ballet Variations. These Variations are presented at the end of the week at a studio demonstration.
In addition to these programs, Rockford Dance Company offers the community a series of introductory Dance Camps. These camps focus on teaching students the basics of the art of dance. This program is not being offered this year due to construction. See us next year for more programs.
Chance to Dance is a four day experience for beginning dancers ages 9 to 11. Students in this program are exposed to a wide horizon of dance forms. Students will receive preliminary instruction in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Musical Theater. As well as studio instruction, students prepare for an informal demonstration that provides valuable performing experience. This is a wonderful way for new dancers to explore the various fields of the dance world, and discover the rich historical interaction that took place to create and develop these different styles. This program is not being offered this year due to construction. Please see us next summer for more programs.
The School also offers an exceptional program of first-time dance instruction through the Dance-A-Story Camps. Perfect for younger students, these camps are four day experiences that teach students the essentials of telling a story through the art of dance. We offer camps for ages 3 to 4, and 5 to 7, with each program geared toward the age-specific needs of developing dancers. These camps extend throughout the summer and each camp presents a different story, from the classic "Cinderella" to the popular "Strawberry Shortcake". Students are encouraged to develop self-expression and creativity through dance. Daily crafts allow students to create props that support their dancing. Each camp concludes with students performing their story, demonstrating the dance experience they have garnered throughout the week.
